I knew nothing about experimental design, but I thought it wasn't that challenging to plan to have a white background and to track the insect's movement. That is, until I had to sunbathe a tarp to decrease creasing. Yes, apparently, you cannot iron a tarp, and creases affect the insect's path! What if a black curtain in the room decides to mimic your black pole? Can you control the light? What happens when the spotted lanternfly does not prefer a small scale setup and thinks its too claustrophobic?
